Money Matters Episode 10.5 Open Journal W/ Jessica Bolanos and Nelson Vanegas of Goodspero
I hosted the Open Journal show this morning on KPFT 90.1 FM to promote Money Matters which streams live every Friday morning at 10 AM on the HD3 channel. After a short introduction I was joined live in the studio by Jessica Bolanos and Nelson Vanegas of Goodspero.
Goodspero is an organization that focuses on education, literacy and gender equality in education. The husband and wife team have helped provide access to books in communities that would otherwise have little or no access to them, as well as scholarships for girls facing obstacles in areas of gender inequality. The project Goodspero is currently involved with if achieved will be the largest educational crowd fund ever.

Co-founder
At the age of one, Nelson’s family brought him to the US to escape the war in El Salvador in the early 80s. They settled in Texas. He grew up in Alief, a culturally diverse suburb in Houston. Being surrounded by the art of many cultures inspired him to start multiple side gigs around video and music including a recording studio.
He went on to graduate from the University of Houston with a degree in Communications and Media Production. During college Nelson was introduced to the radio industry and worked his way up to Creative & Production Director at Univision Radio Houston, producing commercials in English and Spanish and helping develop video strategies for radio clusters.
In 2007 he met Jessica at the radio station. The two started recording commercials together and soon after partnered to launch their own businesses. Nelson realized they shared strong core values and co-founded Goodspero with Jess to create a business that makes best use of his skills and fulfills his need to create content that matters and teaches others to do the same.
You can usually find Nelson on his mountain bike, exploring new places with Jess and their dog Coda or sitting on boards and advisory committees of non-profits doing impactful work with marginalized communities.
